Toronto (Ontario), 15 September 2026 – FinDev Canada, Canada’s development finance institution, and ALTÉRRA, an investment manager recognized for its leadership in climate-focused investments headquartered in Abu Dhabi, announce a strategic partnership to collaborate to mobilize capital at scale for climate investment across emerging markets.

Through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), FinDev Canada and ALTÉRRA will explore potential co-financings, investments, funds, platforms, and blended finance structures that support decarbonization and climate resilience in emerging markets.

ALTÉRRA and FinDev Canada will focus on opportunities across Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Africa, with an emphasis on climate investments. Priority themes include energy transition, industrial decarbonization, climate technology, and adaptation and resilience, spanning sectors such as clean energy, grids and storage, sustainable transport, water, resilient infrastructure, and climate-smart agriculture. The partnership will explore where catalytic capital can be combined with commercial capital to improve risk-adjusted returns, unlock new market opportunities, and develop models that can be replicated across markets.

This collaboration brings together ALTÉRRA’s experience as a climate-focused investment platform with FinDev Canada’s expertise in development finance, and their joint experiences in deploying climate finance to attract private capital to emerging markets.

This partnership builds upon Prime Minister Carney’s visit to Abu Dhabi in late 2025 and Canada’s ongoing commitment to strengthen economic ties and advance collaboration on global priorities with the United Arab Emirates.

H.E. Majid Al Suwaidi, CEO of ALTÉRRA, said: “Emerging and developing markets will be central to the global climate transition and represent one of the greatest investment opportunities of our time. According to ALTÉRRA’s latest Impact Report, 37% of climate investment opportunities are already considered investable or near-investable, underscoring the scale of the opportunity that exists today. Bridging the remaining investment gap requires strong partnerships, innovative financing, and a shared commitment to mobilizing private capital at scale. Together with FinDev Canada, we aim to expand the pipeline of investable climate opportunities and accelerate capital into high-potential markets, drawing on Canada's strength in infrastructure investing and development finance to help deliver both economic and climate outcomes.”

Lori Kerr, CEO, FinDev Canada, said: “The climate transition will not be achieved in developed markets alone. Emerging markets offer extraordinary opportunities to strengthen resilience, advance sustainable growth, and create more prosperous economies, yet investment remains far below what is needed. By bringing together our complementary investment experience, networks, and climate finance capabilities, ALTÉRRA’s and FinDev Canada aim to turn promising climate opportunities into investable realities and demonstrate models that can be replicated across markets. Our ambition is to unlock larger flows of private capital and accelerate climate action and economic opportunity where they are needed most.”

About ALTÉRRA

ALTÉRRA is one of the world’s largest private investment vehicles for climate finance. Launched at COP28 with a USD 30 billion commitment from the UAE, ALTÉRRA aims to build innovative partnerships to mobilize USD 250 billion globally by 2030 to finance the new climate economy and accelerate the climate transition.

ALTÉRRA’s global investment platform combines capital at scale, catalytic structures, and a network of leading investment partners to access climate opportunities across asset classes and geographies. Through fund commitments and co-investments, ALTÉRRA seeks to mobilize institutional capital, open new markets, and develop scalable, replicable investment models that accelerate capital flows into the global climate transition.

ALTÉRRA operates three funds. The Acceleration Fund directs capital towards projects crucial for accelerating the global transition to a net-zero and climate-resilient economy at scale. The Transformation Fund incentivizes investment flows in high-growth climate opportunities in underserved markets by providing catalytic capital. The Opportunity Fund is a climate co-investment vehicle, pursuing a diversified global investment strategy across climate-aligned infrastructure, private equity, and private credit.
