General Information about FinDev Canada

Background

FinDev Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Export Development Canada. It was incorporated in 2017 under the Canada Business Corporations Act. In that capacity, FinDev Canada is accountable to Parliament through the Minister for International Trade.

FinDev Canada is governed by a Board of Directors whose representatives are primarily from the private sector. The Board's responsibility is to supervise the direction and management of FinDev Canada and oversee our strategic direction. Board members are appointed by its sole shareholder.

Responsibilities

FinDev Canada's mandate is to provide, directly or indirectly, development financing and other forms of development support in a manner that is consistent with Canada’s international development priorities. Our mandate is spelled out in the Export Development Act. Under the Financial Administration Act, we are required to submit an annual Corporate Plan, which sets our performance measures and objectives, an Annual Report, which reports on our performance against these objectives, and an operating budget. We adhere to the guidelines and regulations concerning the management and governance of Crown corporations set by the Treasury Board Secretariat of the Government of Canada.

FinDev Canada’s primary objective is to achieve meaningful and demonstrable development impact by contributing to sustainable development and reducing poverty. It will do so by focusing its action on three main themes: economic development through job creation, gender equality, and climate and nature adaptation and mitigation.
